Wildflowers was written for a Flash Fiction competition in the space of 55 hours. The rules were:

• A max. of 500 words.

• Your story’s first word must be NEW.

• Your story must include the words NINETEEN, DESERT and PRESENT.

• Your story must include SOME KIND OF LIST. (Interpret how you like – could be just a mention or an actual list.)
